Laurie Schilling
Watertown, WI
Caregiver
Charity: National MS Society (Wisconsin Chapter)
Laurie has dedicated the last several years of her life to her younger sister, Penny, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor that lead to hospitalization, rehab, more complications and finally her death a month and a half ago, after never being able to return to her original family home.
Laurie cared for her sister's two teenage children, filed divorce proceedings on her behalf, and took on the sole responsibility of Power of Attorney for Penny for all financial and medical decisions.
She sacrificed unreclaimable time with her own family of husband and 3 teenage boys, as well as countless hours of work, sleep, and personal life in general.....but always wore a smile, and always had time to listen and be with Penny, no matter the hour of day or how many days in a row without sleep.
She even went so far as to get assistance in purchasing a handicapped van so that she could bring Penny as many places as humanly possible to give her the best quality of life, and had her stay at own home countless weekends and learned how to administer to many of her health needs.
Laurie Schilling is a truly dedicated human being who looks as what she did as nothing more than treating a life with repect and love and quality.
Penny and her children were very proud of Laurie, as are all her family and friends. Laurie is a very humble, but none the less very deserving of this award!
